 DeWitt-Lavaca Special Education Cooperative
Transition Update  -  July 2014

The process of transitioning the DeWitt-Lavaca Special Education Cooperative (DLSEC) from Cuero to Yoakum is progressing nicely.  There is still much to do between now and the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year.

Beginning on July 15, 2014, the DLSEC Administration Offices will be relocated to 402 Hubbard Street, Yoakum, Texas 77995.  The phone number is (361)293-2854. The FAX line will be installed after the move.

The GOALS program campus will be housed in the Kaiser building at 1611 FM 318 East, Yoakum, Texas 77995.  Phone numbers have not yet been assigned for GOALS.  DLSEC takes possession of the facility on July 14, 2014, and will begin the process of converting the space for classes to begin August 25, 2014.

The sites for the portable buildings are being prepared, and the expected delivery for the portables is July 21, 2014.  The DLSEC classrooms for students in the Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) and grades K-8 will be located at Yoakum Intermediate.  The classrooms for DLSEC high school students will be at Yoakum High School.

DLSEC has welcomed a new Budget Manager, Melanie Jackson, and Director of Operations, Meredith Hairell, to the DLSEC administrative team.  More new and returning staff will be joining us between now and August 18, 2014.

Thank you for all of your support as we make this transition.  Please don’t hesitate to contact us if we may be of service to you.  We’re looking forward to an exciting year!

Yoakum ISD would like to introduce "Blackboard Connect" our new school-to-parent communication service.  With "Blackboard Connect", Yoakum ISD will be able to deliver important information to parents and/or guardians in a timely manner, both for routine announcements and reminders, as well as in the event of an urgent situation.  Please make sure that you notify your child's school immediately if your home phone number or cell number changes during the school year.  We are planning to add the option of receiving this communication in an email or text message at a later date.
