Letter to Parents
The Kindergarten team welcomes you to your child's kindergarten year. We are excited about teaching your child and want it to be a most productive year. We are excited about teaching your child and want it to be a most productive year. This is a vital step toward your child's schooling. With us working together, this year will be successful. Rules are necessary to provide an atmosphere conducive to learning. Please review the classroom and playground rules with your child. They are listed on this web site. School starts at 8:00 a.m. for Kindergarten students. Early release is at 2:30, and if you are able, we encourage you to pick up your child then. Children will be dropped off or picked up at the circle drive on East Hugo. Afternoon buses will run at 3:30 p.m. Bus children will be dropped off and picked up on Simpson Street, but those riding in other vehicles must use the East Hugo circle drive. Vehicles are not to use Simpson Street (or pull out in between buses) during times that buses are dropping off or picking up children. The alphabet is not being introduced in order. One letter is introduced each week. Your child will bring home an alphabet character introducing the letter of the week. He/she will be asked to bring back to school a picture or object of something that starts with that letter sound. Your child may need some assistance with this activity. Also, please see that your child completes and returns any homework papers. This homework allows you to see how your child is working and where he/she might need some help. It also teaches your child responsibility, a necessary quality for educational independence. Also, weekly word lists will be sent home starting about the 7th week of school. This is considered homework and needs to be returned. Our goal at Yoakum Primary Annex is for all children to learn. This task can be accomplished much better when school and home work together. Encourage your child to discuss what he/she has learned daily, using the papers that he/she brings home. Clean out backpacks on a daily basis. Often important informational notes are given to children to bring home to parents, and these can be lost in a mound of old school papers crammed into a backpack. Our school motto is STARS - Students Taking a Right Step. Each child has the potential to be a STAR at Yoakum Primary Annex. Communication between school and home will remain open throughout the year. If you have any concerns or questions, please call the school for a conference. Our conference time is 2:40 -3:25 p.m. Thank you for your cooperation.
