Dear
Parents/Guardians,
Eighth grade reading at Yoakum Junior
High is dedicated to
helping students become better readers and to developing a love of
reading in students. The student who loves to read will be
successful
not only in reading, but in every area of schoolwork and life.
- It is important
for your child to spend at least 20 minutes a day reading.
- Students will go
to the library for library books only during reading
class except for those 8th graders that
are in gifted/talented, speech and health classes. These students will go
during Advisory Class.
- If you want to
supplement your child's reading at home, recorded tapes may be
checked out from
me. A parent teacher conference needs to be scheduled so there
is an understanding by the parent and student about the desired outcome
of
recorded tapes.
- The 8th grade
students will be working on fluency. It is a program aimed at helping
students to read material more fluently and smoothly, thus increasing
comprehension and
reading level.
- Any child who is
caught cheating in my class, will receive an automatic zero on
that paper.
If you have further
questions concerning the reading program, please contact me during my
conference period, which is from 8:15 - 9:00 A.M., at 293-3111. |
