Student Expectations

To have a successful play, all students involved depend on each other for dedication and desire  to give the best performance possible.  The following concepts are to ensure this success.

  • Students are expected to to be at all rehearsals, workdays, clinics and performances.
  • Practices may be missed only when previous arrangements have been made with the director.
  • Excessive absences or being absent without notifying the director will be grounds for replacement.
  • Rehearsals are scheduled for Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 6:30 - 8:00 pm.  This is subject to change due to scheduling around sports, band, etc.
  • As contest approaches rehearsals will run overtime usually till 8:30. Plan ahead and do homework during the school day when possible.
  • All students are expected to stay current with class work and keep passing grades.
  • OAP is a UIL event and must follow the No Pass, No Play rule.
  • Failure in a subject for the 1st or 2nd six weeks results in probation.
  • Failure in a subject for the 3rd - 5th six weeks would probably have to result in replacement.
  • Failure in a subject for more than one six weeks will result in exclusion from OAP for the rest of the year.
  • If you are going to participate in any sports or other UIL events you must indicate these on the tryout information form. Some sports can not be worked around.  If you play basketball, baseball, softball, or tennis it is impossible to do OAP.  The practice times and contest times conflict.
  • Students that are employed should notify their employers of their rehearsals, clinics, and contests and request to be off during those times.  You also need to fill out the job information part of the tryout information form.
  • Students must be willing to grow or cut their hair, wear wigs or hair pieces and use makeup or any other directed action that their characters dictate as indicated by the director.
  • All students are expected to participate in all fundraising events. Producing a play is very expensive.  Costumes, set pieces, props, makeup and clinic fees have to be purchased or made.  You must be willing to do your part.
  • Students are expected to take responsibility for their costumes and props. Mr. Raney and myself are not your maid or butler and the costume and properties managers are there to help you not to take care of your things.
  • Remember when you are with the public that you represent your school and your community.  You are expected to be on your best behavior at all times.  Your will be polite, courteous and respectful. You will follow any direction given be the directors or others in charge.
  • One Act Play begins in September and, if successful, can continue into May.  It can become very tiring.  If you fail a class or decide you no longer wish to do the play you are letting down 20 other people.  When you have to be replaced someone else has to learn all your lines and the blocking or to run your lights or music.
  • Please sign and have your parents sign that you are aware of and willing to fulfill these student expectations.
  • Also on the form indicate which of these are permissible.
