Health & Physical Education Courses

Students are required to have
1½
credits of Physical Education or an approved substitute for
graduation.
An additional ½ credit may be taken as an elective and will
count
toward graduation requirements. Any physical education course or
approved
substitution taken beyond the 2 credits will be awarded as local credit
only and will not count toward requirements for graduation.

This course is designed to make
students
aware of their physical and mental well-being. The major areas of
study are: emotional, mental, and physical health; the ill effects of
alcohol,
narcotics, and tobacco on the body and environment; first aid; the
prevention
and care of accidents; and diseases. Students will also receive
training
in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) leading to certification in
Basic
CPR by the American Heart Association.

The basic purpose of this course is
to
motivate students to strive for lifetime personal fitness with an
emphasis
on the health-related components of physical fitness. The
knowledge
and skills taught in this course include teaching students about the
process
of becoming fit as well as achieving some degree of fitness within the
class.
The student is encouraged to design his/her own fitness program.

sports.
The class will emphasize good sportsmanship, rules of sports, and
