BAND
|
Band is the performing group for
instrumental
music students. Students are assigned to one of the three levels
of
performing groups by audition each school year. In each of the
performing
groups, instrumental students are given opportunities for mental and
physical
discipline, citizenship through group endeavor, physical conditioning,
cultural
growth, skills in making musical value judgments through critical
listening,
skills in music theory, and proper instrumental techniques.
Marching
Band (1st semester) may be substituted for Physical Education credit
(1/2)
each year with the Symphonic Band (2nd semester) receiving Fine Arts
credit
(1/2).

hand/eye
coordination, increases visual acuity, and strengthens personal public
performance
mannerisms. The organization actively participates in University
Interscholastic
League Marching contests, various community parades, pep rallies, and
halftime
at football games. Rehearsals for this group begin approximately
the
first week of August prior to the start of each school year. This

the
advanced level. The marching band may be separated into two or
three
symphonic bands of equal instrumentation, depending on the size of the
marching
unit. The symphonic bands are composed of the most advanced
musicians.
These bands are actively involved in UIL concert/sight-reading
contests,
multiple community concerts, and numerous service projects throughout
the
school year. Members of these bands may participate in UIL
solo/ensemble
contests and are eligible for Texas Music Educators All-State and ATSSB
