Calendar of Events

  • Qualifications

Students must be Juniors or Seniors at Yoakum High School are required to have a 3.3 GPA at the end of their Sophomore or Junior Year.  They also must fill out an application demonstrating they have character, service, and leadership. The Faculty Council selects the honorees.

  • Services

    The National Honor Society members will participate as a group in two service projects.  They will raise funds for The Blue Santa Program and for the Relay For Life for the American Cancer Society.  They will also have a personal service project of their choice.  Some examples used by students in the past are:  working with Upward Basketball as a coach or umpire, spending time with patients at the nursing home, working in the public library, helping civic organizations with their fundraisers, working with "Helping Hearts and Hands."  The National Honor Society believes it is important to give back to their community.
  • Purpose

    The purpose of the National Honor Society is "to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools."

  • Membership

    "Membership in local chapters is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is by a Faculty Council and is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities."
